Inspired by the horror of turn-of-the-20th-century medicine, serial
killers, and other ugly pieces of Western society's underbelly,
PHANTASM NOCTURNES creates haunting, involved, and at times catchy
pieces of dark ambient/industrial. Dark ambient is certainly an
oft-traveled path, but MEMORIES IN A BROKEN MIND stands out by
following similar paths as Lycanthropic Warhead's stunning 2CD
album Infinite Castigation on Crucial Blaze and early industrial
acts like Test Dept. and Einstürzende Neubauten. Each track is
definitely unsettling, fitting perfectly with the project's
inspiration, but has plenty going on to pull the listener in while
simultaneously pushing them away.
